Moncton, NB - A major International Environmental Technology Trade Show and Conference, attended by over 8000 delegates, will have a Greater Moncton flavour when it opens in Montreal on March 22. Ronald LeBlanc, Chair and Conrad Allain, Director of Operations, of the Greater Moncton Sewerage Commission have been asked to make a presentation To AMERICANA, one of the largest environmental conferences in the world. The presentation, entitled Composting Biosolids as a Cornerstone to a Sustainable Wastewater Treatment Strategy at the Greater Moncton Sewerage Commission, is a recognition of the great work that the GMSC has done in relation to biosolids.

AMERICANA has several objectives in bringing environmental leaders from throughout the world together. Creating business opportunities; to stimulate the advancement of technologies used to solve many environmental problems plaguing the world; and to present cutting-edge technologies in every sector, are but some of the objectives.

The Greater Moncton Sewerage Commission is a leader in sustainably dealing with biosolids and has been recognized for their innovative approach to the issue. “The GMSC is committed to promoting and actively pursuing the beneficial use of biosolids produced from its wastewater treatment plant in an environmentally sustainable manner while being fiscally responsible,” LeBlanc said.

“We have elected to produce an environmentally friendly product from the biosolids we collect in the treatment process and have it add value back to the residents and tax payers of our community,” LeBlanc said. In recognition of the standard set by the GMSC they were the first organization outside of the United States and the first Canadaian organization to receive a certification in Environmental Management Systems for biosolids management from the National Biosolids Partnership.

RÉSEAU environnement is the organizer of AMERICANA. RÉSEAU environnement is a non-profit organization resulting from the merger of two associations created more than 45 years ago, and it has built an enviable reputation as an environmental opinion leader.

The organization consists of over 2,000 members including 400 companies, 200 municipalities and about 20 government and parapublic agencies. The presentation by LeBlanc and Allain will take place on the first day of the three day conference and will be available on the GMSC website (www.gmsc.nb.ca) to those who have an interest, following the conference.
