RIVERVIEW, N.B. – The Greater Moncton Sewerage Commission (GMSC) is pleased to welcome Clarence Sweetland as its newest member. Mr. Sweetland was appointed by the Town of Riverview on July 8 for a two-year term. Mr. Sweetland has resided in Riverview since 1979 and worked in the personnel and labour relations field, including a long career with Marine Atlantic. He is probably best known for his 17 years as a member of Riverview town council, which includes eight years as mayor. 

He has also served on the board of many community organizations, including the Westmorland-Albert Solid Waste Corporation’s board of directors and the Codiac Regional Policing Authority.He is married to Sophie and has three children and four grandchildren.

“Mr. Sweetland is a welcome addition to the GMSC,” said Commission chair Winston Pearce. “His skills and experience will complement the current members’ attributes and help guide the GMSC and its strategic direction.”

The Greater Moncton Sewerage Commission operates under the provisions of the Province of New Brunswick Municipalities Act and the Clean Environment Act and serves the communities of Dieppe, Moncton and Riverview. Its mandate is to treat wastewater in the tri-community region through operation and maintenance of its treatment facility and collecting system network. Six commissioners – two from each municipality – provide oversight and direction to GMSC operations and management.
