TransAqua serves the three area Municipalities of Moncton, Dieppe and Riverview with a major network of collector sewers, wastewater Pumping Stations, a Wastewater Treatment Facility and a Composting Facility. Job Overview:


Reporting to the Director of Operations, this role is responsible for the overall functioning of all electrical equipment, the electrical distribution system, the controls, instrumentation and automation as well as plant communications and security systems. This position, as does all team members, carries with it a responsibility to nurture, promote and champion TransAqua’s safety program.


Key Accountabilities:
 

  • Install and Maintain Programming software’s for Programmable Automation Controllers.
  • Program and Troubleshoot Allen Bradley Logix 5, 500 and Control Logix.
  • Install and maintain Motorola MOSCAD and ACE3600 RTU (Remote terminal units) at remote lift stations. 
  • Maintain Radio and antenna systems for the Remote equipment.
  • Maintain plant HVAC (Heating and Ventilation equipment).
  • Install, Program and maintain SCADA computers with FactoryTalk ViewSE Software in a Distributed network system.
  • SCADA Network Design and implementation using Data Highway+, Serial , Modbus, SNMP and Ethernet IP Protocols.
  • Maintain Computer and software configurations for use of Autocad on a Network license environment with multiple users.
  • Create and Maintain Autocad drawings of the Plant electrical systems.
  • Maintain Plant Video camera networked system and DVR computers associated equipment.
  • Maintain schedule of preventive maintenance of electrical distribution, electrical motors and all other electrical equipment. Review regularly with the Director of Operations.
  • Oversee development of the instrumentation, controls and automation with external contractor.
  • Undertake hands on electrical and process control work including repair, preventive maintenance, installation, and programming.
  • Set-up spare parts area and ensure spare parts listing is updated at regular interval.
  • Carry out regular preventive maintenance and emergency repairs as scheduled or as required (Critical repairs to have priority over preventive maintenance).
  • Do preventive maintenance and repairs on the electrical controls and communication networks for the remote pumping stations.
  • Responsible for lighting system re-lamping, repairs and upgrades.
  • Assist other plant and operational personnel in procedures, or temporary installation in preparation for regular maintenance or repairs and as may be required for maintenance or operational support.
  • Keep abreast of technological changes, updates and potential system or equipment enhancements.
  • Maintain records up to date, directs the ongoing development of the controls and automation and participates actively on the design and construction planning of treatment plant expansions or other GMWC initiatives such as the composting operation.
  • Maintains the plant electrical, control and SCADA equipment and systems operating at their peak performance while striving to improve the operational effectiveness, minimizing the cost of operation, and ensuring long term reliability.
  • Supervise and coordinate activities of electrical and controls contractors and specialized service providers such as:
    o Preventive maintenance of electrical switchgear;
    o Machine shops for reconditioning major electrical equipment;
    o Generator and transfer switch testing providers;
    o SCADA support provider;
    o Life safety and security systems.
  • Operating 12,000 volt switchgear.


    Working Conditions:


    Employees are required to work an 8-hour shift from Monday to Friday between 7:00am and 5:00pm and scheduled and unscheduled overtime. At times incumbents perform strenuous physical labour for extended periods of time requiring physical strength and endurance. Other working conditions include lifting heavy loads, performing tasks in high or confined areas, moving on rough or unsteady surfaces, and making repetitive movements such as bending or lifting. Employees are exposed to a variety of weather conditions (e.g., rain, snow and extremes of heat and cold), construction sites, heavy traffic, vibration, noise, dust, chemicals, a variety of construction materials, paint, grease, oil, noxious odours, fumes and potentially hazardous
    materials.


    Essential and Desirable Qualifications:


    The preferred candidate:
     

  • Red Seal Industrial Electrician Certification / License in NB or Interprovincial.
  • Industrial controls program graduate, CET, or equivalent.
  • Minimum five (5) years of related industrial electrical or process control work experience.
  • Extensive experience with AC drives, PLC hardware and applications troubleshooting.
  • Extensive knowledge of ethernet networks.
  • Extensive computer experience, PLC programming, fluent with Excel, FactoryTalk View and knowledge of Visual Basic for Applications (VBA).


    The following certifications are considered to be an asset:

  • Emergency First Aid / CPR – Certification.
  • Confined Space Entry Certification.
  • WHIMS Certification.
  • Arc Flash Training.
  • Applicable professional training in the Industrial Electrician / Automation Control field.
