RIVERVIEW, N.B. – TransAqua – the Greater Moncton Wastewater Commission –
is pleased to announce that the next step to begin the major WWTF Upgrade and
Modernization Project is being taken. In October 2015, the detailed design
consulting contract was awarded for Phase 1: Preliminary Treatment and Septage
Receiving to CBCL Limited. CBCL Limited has been awarded the Phase 2 detailed
design consulting contract.
“TransAqua is committed to meeting the federal wastewater standards by 2020.
This is the next step towards achieving that strategic goal in the planned $90.4-
million upgrade of our wastewater treatment facility in Riverview” said Kevin Rice,
General Manager of TransAqua. “TransAqua must continue to move forward to
secure funding from the Province of New Brunswick and the Government of
Canada to be able to deliver this upgrade project on time and on budget. We
continue to work very hard to do our part in ensuring the good health of the
Petitcodiac River. The quality of our effluent will be greatly enhanced, allowing us
to further help keep the aquatic environment clean.”
Phase 2 of the WWTF Upgrade and Modernization Project involves the
construction of new primary clarifiers to allow for additional solids to settle and be
removed prior to entering the Petitcodiac River. The existing primary clarifiers will
be repurposed to become secondary clarifiers. The tender for construction is
expected to be advertised early in 2017 with construction to begin in the spring.
“This major Upgrade Project will enable the Commission to provide secondary
treatment and meet deadlines imposed by federal regulations", said Dave Muir,
TransAqua Chair. "We are very excited to see this project finally move forward
thanks to the hard work of our staff, board of directors and the support from our
three municipal partners of the Greater Moncton area."
About TransAqua
TransAqua, the Greater Moncton Wastewater Commission (www.transaqua.ca)
was established in 1983 to support the wastewater collection and treatment
needs of the Dieppe, Moncton and Riverview tri-community. Since then, it has
developed a 31-kilometre collection network and a treatment facility to best
deliver on this mandate. It has also become a leader in the reuse of bio-solids
through the generation of type ‘AA’ compost (the highest grade currently achieved
in Canada) as opposed to disposal in a landfill site. The organization is now
positioning itself to further upgrade its facilities to provide an enhanced secondary
treatment approach that will allow it to meet recently introduced mandatory
federal regulations prior to the 2020 deadline.
